Benefits
Centralised cooling can achieve the same benefits and competitive factors as
district heating. Centralising the cooling production into larger units
increases the efficiency of energy use and processes compared with separate
cooling systems for each building. In a centralised cooling system, the most
advantageous source of cold and the most appropriate technology for each
situation are used.
Transferring to district cooling considerably reduces electricity
consumption. It also reduces the need for electricity if district cooling
replaces cooling energy produced by electricity in the building. District
cooling significantly reduces the amounts of greenhouse gases (CO2 etc.) and
other emissions, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and
particle emissions.
With respect to the building, the benefits of district cooling
include:
• simplicity
• small space
requirement
• competitive price
• easy to make a cost
estimate
• no need to invest in cooling equipment or
condensers
• no need to invest in the replacement of cooling equipment
or condensers
• no large condensing units
• security of
supply
• energy efficiency
• environmentally
friendly
• no noise or vibration
• low maintenance and repair
needs
