Electricity is generated in power plants. From the power plants, electricity is transmitted to homes and other places of use through the main grid and local distribution networks. Customers can purchase their electric energy from any electricity vendor who, in turn, acquires the electricity from the wholesale market. Many industrial companies buy their electricity directly from the wholesale market. The wholesale market price is formed on the electricity exchange.
