Electricity Network
Electricity is a basic service provided to all residents of Finland. The task of the electricity network is to transmit the electricity produced in power plants to electricity users. In Finland, there are some three million electricity users and four hundred power plants generating electricity. Finland also has power transmission links to Sweden, Norway and Russia. Finland’s electricity network is part of the Nordic power system and electricity market.
At the end of the 1960s, the majority of Finland had electricity, and at the beginning of the 1980s the electricity grid covered the entire country. All residents of Finland are connected to the electricity grid, and the supply of power is secure. According to studies, the majority of electricity users have confidence in the operation of Finland’s electricity grid. Many people do not think that they are using electricity, but having various functions of using electricity, such as cooking, watching TV, lighting, cleaning and electric heating. All in all, the electricity network is an integral part of the Finnish society.
