Electricity Price and Agreements
A consumer in Finland may purchase electricity from any vendor operating in Finland who offers electricity to the consumer’s electricity consumption site. The consumer cannot choose his electricity network company, but electricity transmission is the responsibility of the network located in the area where the customer lives.
Total price of electricity consists of the price of electric energy, which is composed of factors related to electricity procurement and sale, grid and regional network transmission and distribution, and electricity tax and value added tax.
A consumer buys electricity by concluding a contract with the electricity supplier. The contract may be either a single overall delivery contract, or separate electricity sales contract and electricity network contract. An electricity sales contract can be concluded with any electricity company. The electricity network contract is concluded with the local electricity network company. The sales contract is for purchasing the actual electric energy. It is also possible to draw up an electricity supply contract with the local electricity company, in which case it is not necessary to conclude a separate sales and distribution contract. These contracts are concluded with the electricity company either in writing or verbally. The property owners also need a written connection contract, which is concluded with the electricity network company.
