Protection of sea eagles
The Finnish Energy Industries Pool for Environment is in cooperation with WWF
working for improved living conditions for sea eagles. As a result of studies,
the cooperation organ decided to install crossbars on electric poles which
prevent sea eagles from being electrocuted by power lines. The bars which are
installed at the top of the pole allow the eagle to rest on the pole, but
prevent it from reaching the electric wires with its wings. This relatively
cheap measure, which was made in the Fortum company’s power line network,
improves the continuity of electricity supply as well. Finnish Energy Industries
will as a result of the project provide its members with recommendations over
how to make power lines safer.
The purpose of the Pool for Environment,
an agreement within the energy sector, is to fund and coordinate industry
related environmental research. Climate change, sustainable development and
social responsibility are the central topics.
Finnish Energy Industries is
an organization representing the electricity and district heating enterprises in
industrial- and labor market policy. Finnish Energy Industries works as a part
of the Environment Pool and operates as its administrational
coordinator.
