The price for energy does matter
Finnish Energy Industries association meeting in Levi, 8th of May, 2008
It is crucial that Finland has access to energy at a reasonable price even in
the future. Affordable energy means competitiveness, lower inflation and
interacts directly with the people’s welfare. Due to self-sufficiency and to the
fact that old power plants will be out of date during the next decade, we need
to make considerable investments to secure the supply of affordable energy and
meet the demands of the climate change as well. These inevitable investments can
only be made if the societal ambiance is open-minded. Study made by Finnish
Energy Industries shows that even if we would considerably increase the
production of renewable energy, we will still need two new nuclear power plants
and condensing power before the year 2020. (Mr Seppo
Ruohonen, Chairman of the Executive Board, Finnish Energy
Industries)
